first_imgEver wondered what it would be like to fly through the skies with the wind in your hair? Well, windowless airplanes are set to bring you one step closer to living your ultimate dream – or nightmare?!UK developers are working on replacing conventional airplane windows with smartscreen panels that will give you a bird’s eye view of everything going on outside of the aircraft.Apart from thrilling some flyers and unnerving others, the new lighter, streamlined designs will cut fuel consumption and, as a result, help reduce airfare dramatically.Made using organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) the screens will be fitted to the inside of the fuselage and display hi-definition images captured by cameras on the plane’s exterior. This technology is based on elements that already exist in your mobile phone and televison.Alternatively, it has been suggested that the onboard screens may be used to provide in-flight entertainment or information about your destination. So when will we see this future vision of flight in action? Developers based at the Centre for Process Innovation in the north-east of England claim that windowless planes could be a reality within a decade.Tell us what do you think?
